Dyeing

Great workshop on Thursday. I thought we were going to have a small group of 3 but it turned out to be 8. Nice size and we all fit around a couple of dining tables for lunch outside on the patio. People came from near and far: North Carolina, Minnesota, Brandon, New Port Richey and around Clearwater, Florida and ranged from experienced to newbies dyeing with Color Hue dyes. We covered the basics and then some advanced techniques. Using the method of folding the silk, then putting sticks on either sides of the folds and then clamping the sticks was very popular. Great effects. Wish I had taken photos. I’ll work on getting photos next time so I can share with you. We also made silk organza greeting cards to match some of the silk scarves dyed for gifts. I love getting ready for workshops because my house gets cleaned up along with my studio. At least cleaner than it was.

Now I am going to mess it all up again getting ready for the FAB show in Sarasota this week. Reception is in the evening on Thursday at the Sarasota Art Center and the show/sale is open Friday through Sunday. Over 75 artists displaying work (weaving, jewelry, basketry, surface design, dyed stuff and more). I am entering my thread lace bowls, silk scarves and Day by Day: Pieces of Life collage series of panels. If you are in the area,

Creative Fabric Collage Technique Sampler

it would be great to see you.  Oh, I have some collage kits with instructions available on my website shopping cart if you are interested in doing your own collages at home.

Now I am off to Sarasota to dine at the Lazy Lobster where my son is chef. Can’t wait to try the sole.

Best Wishes in Art, Marlene
